Turning Point for Granite Staters: Committee Advances HB1706 to Stop Diverting Taxpayer Dollars to Non-Citizens
Concord, NH – March 4, 2026 – NH First, New Hampshire’s leading voice ensuring taxpayer dollars serve our own citizens exclusively, today celebrates a major victory for Granite Staters as the House Committee on Health, Human Services and Elderly Affairs delivered a resounding Ought to Pass (OTP) recommendation on HB1706.
Led by Chair Hon. Rep. Wayne MacDonald, Vice Chair Hon. Rep. Lisa Mazur, and supported by the committee majority and House GOP leadership, this critical step forward rejects the misuse of taxpayer resources on federal refugee resettlement programs. For too long, New Hampshire citizens have shouldered costs that divert funds from our own families, veterans, seniors, and communities. Today, the committee said enough is enough: New Hampshire comes first.
“HB1706 is the turning point we’ve been fighting for,” said Patrick Binder, Director of NH First. “This committee’s bold action is the first decisive step toward averting a constitutional crisis and ending the practice of taking from hardworking New Hampshire citizens to give to non-citizens. No more. Today, we reclaim our resources for our people.”
NH First extends deep gratitude to primary sponsor Hon. Rep. Travis Corcoran for introducing and championing this bill with unwavering resolve. We also thank the hundreds of citizens who submitted powerful online testimony and the dozens who courageously testified in person, your voices made the difference and proved that when Granite Staters unite, we win.
“Our leadership is now thinking New Hampshire First,” Binder added. “This is the recharge we need in the ongoing fight to secure the blessings of liberty for generations to come. We urge the full House to show their dedication to our citizens and pass HB1706.”
NH First calls on all Granite Staters to contact their representatives and demand full support for HB1706. Together, we can ensure resources serve citizens exclusively—today and always.
